Our Philosophy

Philosophy Foods was founded in 2014 by specialty food industry veterans, David Yourd and Karrie Kimble.

Philosophy Foods was founded in 2014 by specialty food industry veterans, David Yourd and Karrie Kimble. The company was formed to help several small producers who created superior products, but did not have the means to effectively promote them nationally in the U.S. The name “Philosophy” was chosen for the founders’ devotion to a unique ideology of putting the producer’s success in the market first and foremost. Philosophy Foods is currently the national importer and representative for 7 select brands, 2 of which David and Karrie are 50% partners. In 2019 the tagline, “Producers and Partners” was added. Never willing to compromise, Philosophy has curated a paramount food portfolio. The producers in this catalog have all been intensely vetted for sustainable production practices and achieving best in class status. As the industry grows, it is important to be able to distinguish between real ingredients versus the well marketed. You can trust in the integrity of any product offered by Philosophy Foods.

Shea Vinson

Northeast Sales Manager

Shea began working in restaurants in college, developing a passion for unique ingredients and complex flavors. After moving to Brooklyn, she dove head-first into specialty foods wholesale by joining the sales team of MAST Chocolate, then Brooklyn staple Café Grumpy. In March of 2021, Shea stepped into her current role at Philosophy Foods, a natural step given her love of Spanish foods (and cheese!). On her days off, she can be found at the farmer’s market with her pup, Meatball, or catching a show at a local venue.

Kevin Corcoran

West Coast Sales Manager

Kevin takes care of the western US for Philosophy Foods, bringing twenty years of food industry experience to his role. Starting in the kitchen, he then spent years as a cheesemonger before moving into sales and purchasing for a few wholesale distributors and importers. He values working with producers who put quality, sustainability and tradition at the forefront of their practices while providing service to the market through diverse and dynamic partnerships. When not peddling fine foods Kevin can be found behind the drum kit or hiking on the California coast where he lives.
